Do You Snore? What You Can Do

Posted on: 4 August 2019

If you have been told that you are a snorer, you may find yourself feeling self-conscious and concerned about your sleeping. Snoring can be a symptom of many different health issues and conditions. Because of this, there are numerous treatments that can be utilized to deal with a snoring problem. Get to know some of the snoring treatments available to you. Then, you can be sure you give one or several of them a shot to try to get your snoring under control as soon as possible.

Sleep on Your Side

Though not a medical treatment for snoring, one of the ways that you may be able to curb your snoring and get it under control is to start sleeping on your side rather than on your back. People tend to snore more and louder when they sleep on their backs.

Lose Some Weight

If you are overweight or obese, this may contribute to your snoring. It can also be a contributing factor to having sleep apnea, a sleep condition in which your airway closes briefly when you are sleeping. This can be a dangerous condition that can be linked to heart disease and other conditions.

Because of the connection between being overweight and sleep apnea (as well as snoring in general), weight loss can be a good way to deal with snoring issues. Getting to a healthy weight can sometimes resolve these problems entirely or can at least improve them.

Nasal Strips

Some people use nasal strips to deal with snoring issues. These strips are placed on the nose every night before sleep. The idea is that they will help keep nasal passages open and clear throughout the night. If you believe your snoring may be due to congestion, nasal strips may be an excellent solution for you.

Sleeping Masks and Machines

Machines like CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machines and others are designed to help with conditions like sleep apnea that cause snoring. These machines utilize masks that go over the nose (and sometimes the mouth as well) to push air through the airways, preventing closures or blockages that result in the breath being stopped.

To get such machines and masks, you will need to first do a sleep study and be diagnosed with sleep apnea and other sleep breathing disorders. Then, your doctor will prescribe you with the machine and help you to find a mask that fits you and your sleep needs well.

Now that you know a few of the ways that you can treat your snoring issues, you can start trying some of these methods as soon as possible.
